Feeling safe and secure in your home is something we all
have the right to expect. Achieving that sense of security
often requires different measures for different people. Many
people are turning to the use of video surveillance to
achieve that level of protection they are looking for. You
may have dismissed this option as being to complicated or
costly. The reality is that with many of the wireless
surveillance systems available on the market today, it is
much easier than you might think to install and maintain
your own video surveillance network. Let us take a closer
look at exactly what is involved in setting up a wireless
security system for your home.
Advancements in wireless technology have made wireless
security camera systems increasingly popular. The biggest
drawback to traditional surveillance systems was the
difficulty of installation. In order to set up a
surveillance network, you had to lay long lengths of wires,
drill many holes, and deal with a multitude of hassles. With
the advent of wireless technology, the problem of a lengthy
and messy installation process has been remedied. Recent
improvements in wireless technology have not only improved
the security of wireless networks in general, but have also
gone a long way towards simplifying the entire
implementation process.
A wireless camera system is made up of three basic
components: the camera, transmitter, and the receiver.
Probably one of the most difficult tasks of setting up a
wireless camera system is deciding on the actual cameras you
will be using to perform the surveillance. The options are
virtually endless, and the features and prices can vary
greatly. Taking the time to accurately access your
surveillance needs will go a long way towards helping you
decide which features you need and which you can live
without.
Another piece of equipment that you should seriously
consider investing in is a digital video recorder or DVR.
You can either purchase this as a stand-alone component or
purchase a video capture card that can be installed in your
personal computer. A video capture card will transform your
PC into a fully functioning DVR.
One of the latest trends in wireless video surveillance
is having IP-based technology built into the camera. An
IP-based camera works as its own built in web server
allowing you to access the video captured by the camera
directly over the Internet. Not only does this give you more
camera control and viewing options, it makes video storage
and review much easier to manage.
Once you have selected the wireless surveillance cameras
you would like to install, it is a relatively simple process
to get a wireless surveillance network up and running.
Assuming you already have a wireless network running in your
home, all you really need to do after you mount the cameras
is plug in your wireless camera receiver in to your PC and
the camera and receiver should be able to communicate with
one another. The steps to set up each individual camera
depends much on what type of software comes with the
surveillance package you are purchasing. Most systems today
come preloaded with many of the settings you would need
already pre-programmed.
If you are thinking about making the step to set up your
own wireless system, chances are you will be pleasantly
surprised with how painless the process really is. Just a
few simple steps are all that stands in your way of having a
fully functional, secure surveillance system in place to
protect you and your family.
