Finding a quality wireless security camera system for your home is not always an easy task. There are so many options and choices. Finding one that meets all of your expectations is often easier said than done.

In this article, we are going to take a closer look at two popular wireless home security cameras, the DSC-5300G and the DSC-6620G, both of which are offered by D-Link. We will look at DSC-5300G and DSC-6620G camera reviews, as well as some of the unique features of each, in an effort to determine how they both rank among consumer expectations.

D-Link DSC-5300G SECURICAM Wireless Internet Security Camera

This powerful wireless Internet security camera features remote access capabilities, and can achieve an amazingly fast transfer rate of 54 Mbps by utilizing the latest 802.11g wireless technology. In addition to the quality of the wireless video signal this camera produces, the surveillance camera itself has a pan, tilt, zoom function that can be controlled from a web interface. The camera is capable of panning up to 270 degrees horizontally, and tilts as much as 90 degrees vertically.

The features of this surveillance camera are further enhanced with the inclusion of a software package that allows high quality video recording using MPEG4 compression directly to your computer's hard drive. In addition, the software provides the ability to monitor as many as 16 cameras on one single screen and the ability to set motion detection triggers.

The list price on this camera is $550, but according to PC Magazine, is well worth the price due to its robust features. The editors rated it very good (4/5 circles) and awarded it their Editor's Choice designation. You can visit the following link for more details on PC Magazine's review of the DSC-5300G camera.

Last time we checked Amazon.com was selling the DSC-5300G for $299.99 with free shipping. There were 16 user reviews currently listed with less than stellar reviews of the camera, giving an average of two out of five stars. Those who complained the most about the camera stated that they experienced frequent video lock-ups that required power resetting to get the camera working again. Many also were unhappy with the customer support provided by D-Link.

D-Link DSC-6620G Wireless G 10x Optical Zoom Internet Camera

This camera features dual codec support, built-in microphone, low-light sensitivity, and 10x optical zoom. The zoom feature alone allows you to view the level of detail necessary to clearly identify people, or objects such as vehicle license plate numbers. This camera is accessible through a web-based interface, which allows up to 10 users to view live video feeds from the camera simultaneously. In addition, the included software package allows you to monitor and manage up to 16 cameras, set recording schedules, and configure motion detection settings quickly and easily. Furthermore, this camera supports WPA-PSK, TKIP, and WEP to ensure superior network security.

This unique surveillance camera sells for around $750, which some say may be a bit overpriced. It does have many unique features, so you do get a lot for your money, but it does rank high on the price scale. Two DSC-6620G user reviews at Newegg.com remarked that the picture quality was very good, even in almost complete darkness. However, others remarked that the software was somewhat lacking, and that the camera base tends to get very hot which could pose a fire hazard.

On Amazon.com, reviews of the DSC-6620G were also mixed. The biggest complaints were the complexity of the configuration options and the poor technical support. However, two other users stated that this camera offers great low light visibility, is easy to install, and had very reliable wireless connectivity.

Both of these cameras have a lot to offer in the feature department, but for the most part, it has been a mixed bag of experiences by consumers with the consensus of the reviews leaning mostly negative for the DSC-5300G and somewhat more positive for the more expensive DSC-6620G. If you have a need for a surveillance camera that is rich in the features offered by these two models, then the DSC-6620G would be the better choice based on the user reviews, but it is definitely the more expensive option.
