AT&T is now offering a unique remote video monitoring security system called Remote Monitor. This new video security system allows you to receive live streaming video and comprehensive security alerts directly through your personal computer or web-enabled cellular phone. You can also remotely control your home lighting and appliances, and monitor such events as temperature changes, and water leaks all through a web-enabled device.

The Remote Monitor service is available through AT&T to customers who subscribe to Cingular's wireless services. All it takes is a quick review of this remote home monitoring service and you will realize this service provides much more then just remote video surveillance. The comprehensive security alert feature can be configured to notify you when doors or windows are opened, when motion is detected, when temperature changes, or when water is leaking. Now when you are away from home, you no longer have to worry about what you might find when you come back. You can be confident that you will receive an alert instantly if something out of the ordinary is detected.

In order to get started with this service, you need to purchase a starter kit, which comes with a pan/tilt IP camera, two power modules, one wireless door/window sensor, a gateway to connect to your router, software package, and complete instructions. The security kit costs $99.00 and provides everything you need to get your monitoring system up and running. After you get your system set-up, you then will need to pay a monthly flat fee of $9.95 for access to the service. Additional accessories such as add-on cameras, wireless temperature and water sensors, motion sensors, and wireless power controllers are all available for easy customization of your system.

The beauty of this service is that you can control all of the home monitoring equipment remotely directly over the Internet through an integrated web portal. All of the alerts are customizable, and the available monitors are much more comprehensive then standard IP-based surveillance packages. Imagine being able to monitor motion, temperature, water leaks, or even adjust the lighting in your home while you are away, all through your cell phone. This innovative service will likely change the way you think about home surveillance.

AT&T is focused on developing advanced technology that enables communication and information sharing over wireless networks and devices. They have teamed up with Cingular wireless to make this vision possible through the use of Cingular's web-enabled mobile phones and services.
