Since video surveillance cameras are generally very
effective and relatively simple to setup and maintain,
residential use of video surveillance is becoming an
increasingly popular means of theft deterrent. You might be
wondering if all this technology is effective, or even
necessary to keep your house safe from theft. Have you ever
thought about only giving the illusion that your home is
being closely monitored? Would installing a residential
video surveillance sign be all you really need to protect
your home?
This is an interesting concept to consider. The ultimate
goal of a home video surveillance system is to protect your
property from potential vandalism or theft. What if someone
just thought they were being monitored? With the covert
nature of many home surveillance camera setups today, how
could anyone really know for sure if they were being
monitored or not. Would displaying home video surveillance
signs be enough to create doubt in a burglar's mind, thus
prompting them to avoid your residence?
There might actually be something to the idea. There are
many companies out there that market and sell video
surveillance signs, which can be easily displayed on windows
or posted at key points in your yard to indicate that a
video camera monitoring service is in use. Most yard signs
and window decals are relatively small, but bright enough to
catch someone's attention. A simple message is displayed
warning the potential intruder that video surveillance
cameras are in use.
Signs are very inexpensive as well, generally running
about $10.00 in cost per sign. There are several different
sites on the Internet that offer security warning signs,
which makes securing one a very simple process. One place
you can find
video surveillance decals and plastic signs is at the
Home Security Store.
X10.com is
another great site when shopping for
video surveillance yard signs and
window decals.
On the other hand, a simple yard sign may not be the
answer to your specific home security and surveillance
needs. It is certainly not a foolproof method. If it becomes
evident to a burglar that there is no substance behind the
threat, then of course, displaying a sign is meaningless.
Nevertheless, if you are not really convinced of your need
to have a sophisticated video surveillance system outside
your home, then displaying a simple sign may be exactly what
you need to give you some extra peace of mind and convince
would be burglars to think twice before trying to break into
your home.
