People choose to install video surveillance cameras in their home for many different reasons. One popular reason is to use them as a tool for watching over their children and caregivers. In fact, nanny surveillance is so popular there are special lines of miniature cameras and equipment designed and devoted specifically for this type of surveillance. This article serves as a review of the features available on some of the most popular nanny cameras on the market.

As you begin your search for a nanny camera system for your home, it can be helpful to look at nanny cameras as consisting of two basic parts; the camera and the housing. Since most nanny surveillance cameras are designed to be completely concealed and undetectable, you can find an almost endless supply of unique housing styles. While the actual housing itself can play a critical part of a covert surveillance system, it is easy to become more concerned with picking out the housing than the camera itself. To keep this from happening, it is important to decide on the camera and features first before narrowing in on the housing style that is most appropriate for your home.

The following are three very popular models of nanny cameras you might want to consider include:

  1. Wireless Color Nanny Camera by X10 -- This system comes with two wireless cameras that capture and transmit clear color images up to 100 feet to a 2.4GHz wireless receiver. The receiver can be connected directly to your TV or to a VCR for easy recording. The system also comes with motion detection functionally and can be set to automatically trigger video recording when motion is sensed. The cameras that come with this system are a small 1.25", but do not come with any special housing. The small size and wireless nature of these cameras give you the ability to easily conceal them yourself within the existing décor of your home.

  2. Covert Hidden Spy Cameras by Brickhouse Security -- The cameras offered on this website are not termed as nanny cameras, but they function very well for that purpose. Unlike the X10 camera, the Brickhouse product offers some basic customization options and numerous housing choices. All of their hidden cameras come with the basic features mentioned above in addition to the ability to decide whether you want a wired or wireless version, and whether or not you want a color or black and white version. After you have decided which of these features is appropriate for your surveillance application, you can then select from over 30 unique camera housings. Styles range anywhere from different clock options, speakers, smoke detectors, and even a stuffed teddy bear. No matter which style you choose, you will be guaranteed a high quality camera that will clearly and reliably keep watch over your loved ones.

Once you select the style that is most appropriate for your home, you can then decide if you want the basic camera model, or select from the following list of eight different upgrade options.
  • A low lux, high-resolution, black and white camera

If you have not though, keep in mind the most important decision is to decide which camera features are essential to your surveillance needs. After you have determined the features you require, you can have some fun deciding which housing is best suited for concealing the camera itself.
