The Linksys Wireless-B Internet Video Camera is a great
model for those of you who are searching for an inexpensive
easy way to monitor video feeds from your surveillance
camera over the Internet. While this model is not actually
being manufactured anymore by Linksys, it is still pretty
easy to find, and is a good find for those bargain hunters
out there. Let us take a closer look at what this camera
offers.
The Linksys Wireless-B camera, also know as the
Linksys WVC11B, comes complete with a stand-alone web
server and wireless technology. This Internet home security
camera gives you the ability to wirelessly transmit live
video directly to your local network. You can also transmit
images directly to your personal computer for easy viewing
and management of video files, but this is not required.
Because this unit acts as its own web server, you do not
need any other technology other than a wireless or Ethernet
network to view video feeds directly over the Internet. This
is a great feature for those of you who travel a lot and
want to keep a close eye on your home while you are out of
town.
Getting this camera set up and communicating with your
home network is simple, and does not require a lot of
configuration. The wireless camera technology also ensures
easy camera placement and installation. Another unique
feature of this camera is its security mode setting, which
allows you to automatically send an email message with video
clip attached when the camera detects motion.
Since this camera is no longer manufactured, you can no
longer purchase directly from Linksys. However, other third
party retailers may still have some units in stock. You can
also find used models on sites like
Amazon.com
and eBay.com.
Because of its discontinued status, you will likely find
some great bargains.
Most third party reviewers that have ranked this camera
have listed similar pros and cons.
Wi-Fi
Planet, which is an internet site that advertises and
reviews various Wi-Fi products, has remarked that this
cameras web server technology is impressive and easy to set
up. They did also note however that the image quality of the
video is not great, and tends to be a bit pricey for what
you get. Use the following link to read their entire
WVC11B review.
CNet
Reviews, which posts user comments and rankings on
various consumer products, published a "mediocre" overall
user
rating for the WVC11B camera. It got good reviews for
ease of setup, but again lost points for picture resolution.
Now that this camera is discontinued, you can actually
purchase it for around $80. That is actually a good bargain
for a web enabled video surveillance camera. If you can
overlook the image quality and lack of support you will
receive due to the fact it is a discontinued model, this
camera may provide exactly what you are looking for.
