The D-Link DCS-2100G -- A home security wireless Internet camera perfect for IP-based home security and surveillance

If you interested in setting up a home security wireless Internet camera system for your home, the D-Link DCS-2100G is a great camera to consider. What makes the D-Link DCS-2100G so remarkable is that it contains many of the advanced features found in higher priced Internet security cameras for just a fraction of the cost. We will explore these features a little more in depth so you can decide for yourself if this camera is right for your home surveillance needs.

At first glance, the D-Link DCS-2100G wireless Internet camera may not appear that different from other IP-based web cameras. However, since it comes with its own IP address and built-in web server, the camera can be utilized anywhere on your home network without having to be directly connected to your PC. The camera also contains Universal Plug & Play technology making the connection process to your existing network simple and easy.

Because this camera is built with IP-based technology, you can also create a personal web address for your camera if you desire. This gives you the ability to remotely access your camera as well as view captured video from your camera directly over the Internet. When you access your camera through a web browser, you can take snapshots as well zoom the camera in on a specific area to obtain further close up views.

The D-Link DCS-2100G also comes with some unique configurable options. With this camera, you can actually segregate certain areas of the viewable area to individually sense for movement within that specific area. If motion is detected in that area of the screen, the camera can be set to automatically email you a warning message or a photo alerting you of the detection. The camera also has a comprehensive time scheduling function that allows you to specify certain times of the day to activate or deactivate the camera.

There are, however, a few drawbacks that cannot be overlooked with this camera. The main one being that the setup can be a bit difficult because the instruction manual is not very descriptive. In addition, the image quality is not outstanding. The camera's resolution is 320x240 pixels. That is enough to minimally do the job, but not enough to provide the clarity of other higher priced models. The Good Gear Guide provides a comprehensive review that touches more on the pros and cons of this Internet camera.

Overall, this camera is ideal for consumers looking for an inexpensive IP-based camera that contains some advanced features. Coming in at around $300.00, this camera really is hard to beat.
