Whether we like to admit it our not, our world can be a dangerous place. Governmental agencies, businesses, and homeowners across the country are responding to increased concerns about terrorism and criminal activity by exploring new avenues for protection. Digital video surveillance technology continues to be a key area of focus.

A company called Seagate is doing their part to advance digital video surveillance technology in an effort to provide more sophisticated surveillance systems for our personal protection. They have just released a 500GB digital video recorder hard drive that is specifically designed for the digital video surveillance market.

Digital video surveillance is the technology of choice for large-scale public surveillance because the technology offers a lot more functionality and efficiency over older methods like analog CCTV. Captured video can be automatically previewed and security events flagged in mere seconds as opposed to the hours or even days it used to take sifting through video tapes. Video images are much clearer, crisper, and more detailed. Digital technology also greatly increases the amount of video that can be stored on one drive. In order to get all of this functionality though, the surveillance system has to be powered by an incredibly powerful hard drive. The Seagate SV35 Series DVR hard drives were designed specifically for this market niche.

The SV35 Series drives are designed to withstand a variety of external abuses that would typically render most hard drives useless. Such events as heavy vibrations, poorly ventilated systems, and high volume recording demands do not affect the performance of this hard drive. Due to these characteristics, this hard drive is ideal for surveillance environments that require a high number of surveillance camera inputs, or a large number of triggered recording events. The drive is very efficient, requiring very little energy to power up, while automatically powering down to power saving mode when not in active use. It can also store up to 100 days of video working at full capacity during 24/7 operations. Seagate backs their drive with a full 5-year warranty.

When it comes to surveillance, you cannot afford to have equipment fail or not function properly. Seagate understands this critical need for powerful yet reliable surveillance equipment. They have become recognized as the world's leader in the manufacture of hard disc drives. Their product line consists of hard drives for consumer electronic devices, desktop and notebook computers, portable storage devices, and even enterprise-class servers. Now they have taken their expertise and branched out into the digital surveillance market, developing the only drive of its kind designed solely for the digital surveillance market space.
