Wireless spy cam for the everyday man

A wireless spy cam is no longer just for the clandestine security forces. Now, for less than $100 US dollars, almost anyone can go out and buy their own wireless spy cam and check out what the babysitter actually does when you leave the house.

Cameras have always played an integral part in spy stories. When James Bond would go to the techno-geek to get his supply of spy toys for his mission, we always expected some way to gather information and a camera seemed the likeliest and easiest way. But, of course a spy cam had to be hidden and unobservable by those around. The wires often made that a little difficult.

Evolution to a wireless spy cam

Some fun facts from The Spy Museum:

  • In 1917-1918, aerial surveillance cameras consisted of pigeons strapped with tiny cameras that continuously clicked away.

  • In 1949, clever spies in Germany used a wristwatch camera that took pictures when the spy pretended to check the time.

  • In the 1970’s, KGB spies wore coats wired with buttonhole cameras.

  • In the 1980’s, the East German security service was known to use a “through the wall” camera for spying in hotels.

What would these spies have thought if they knew that now they could have a wireless spy cam that has a pinhole-sized lens? These systems have become so affordable that we can look back on the old spy methods and chuckle at the extreme lengths they took to do something that can now be said to be quite ordinary.

Maybe the everyday Joe has no need to spy on his neighbor, but the wireless spy cam can help with video surveillance of his own property and belongings. Not only can a spy cam be placed to view the property when one is away, but it can also be used to view all visitors who happen to knock at your door. This can be used as a “video intercom” to know who is visiting when you are in another area of the house that is not easily accessible to the front door.

For personal video surveillance where your personal security is at stake, a wireless spy cam is an effective and unobtrusive way of raising your private security measures around your own home.
