Putting a wireless hidden camera in everyday objects

June 3, 2005

The concept of a wireless hidden camera just makes me think we’ve been “beamed” into the Holodeck on the starship Enterprise. Remember the Holodeck? That’s that virtual reality room where a computer is keeping track of your every movement and making things appear to be real when they’re not. Similarly, a wireless hidden camera can now appear to be something really different than what it is. Meanwhile, it’s taking note of our every move.

Imagine walking into your office and noting the beautiful picture frame in the lobby. You always liked that Renoir print. It was so eye-fetching. Would it bother you to know it was also looking you up and down? Yes, it could be sporting a wireless hidden camera without you even knowing it.

Next you walk down the hallway and see the smoke detector lining the wall. Isn’t it wonderful that your company puts so many of them up? Maybe some of them aren’t real. Maybe some have a hidden camera stuck in them.

The list of everyday objects in which a wireless hidden camera can be placed seems endless: an exit sign, a wall clock, a fake plant, an air purifier, a radio, a DVD player, a desk lamp, a pencil sharpener -- almost anything a person can imagine.

Oh, and as for those video surveillance cameras that you sometimes see around different offices or malls -- they may not be cameras at all. They may just be the decoys to make the wireless hidden camera more effective.
